Cause and Effect

Emptiness goes beyond conception, the sages say. Imagination has nothing to take hold of in emptiness. It is important for us to recognize, in this context, that what is utterly and absolutely empty cannot be the cause of anything; nor can it be the effect of anything.

Nor, when the primordial condition has always been empty of anything, can the empty condition have been caused by anything. And, of course being empty, it cannot affect any thing.

Such a phenomena as cause-and-effect is within the Dream, and like anything else within the Dream is ultimately empty of reality. What can act as a “real” cause or effect on phenomena all of which are empty of reality?

So, in truth, nothing can actually be born, created or originated—which are the subject of causes and effects.

This tells us that there is no actor, or subsequent actions. This means that, outside of the empty and unreal Dream, not any thing has ever actually happened, because not anything has ever actually been created that can move or take action.
